HEALTH CARE NEWS : “THE YOUTH ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, THE YOUTH ARE THE SOLUTION”
That is the shout that the Chicago Youth Health Service Corps begins with at every meeting. The Corps brings over 175 medical and nursing students to prepare and assist over 1500 elementary and high school students to screen their parents and neighbors for hypertension, diabetes, breast and prostate cancer, asthma and HIV/AIDS. Students learn – and teach – lifestyle and diet changes to prevent disease. “We are fighting the twenty year life expectancy gap between our communities and communities with insurance and regular doctors. Already the undocumented and legal permanent residents are excluded from ObamaCare. With Trump’s th
reats to eliminate Obamacare the crisis of inequality will only grow worse. We have to organize our community for prevention – while we fight for equal health care for all.”
